'''Alan Wake''' is a 3rd person action adventure game focused around a supernatural mystery that follows protagonist Alan Wake. The game was released on 14th May 2010. Alan Wake was developed by [[Remedy Entertainment]], the makers of [[Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne]] - the game that was the catalyst for the creation of the band [[Poets of the Fall]].

The game features many Remedy Entertainment staple elements, such as Norse mythology, environmental storytelling, fourth wall breaks, naming puns, narrative jumping, horror elements, in-fiction media and ventures outside of the game's core genre. The game is structured episodically in the style of a classic tv series. Additionally, a six-episode live-action web series called Bright Falls acts as a prequel to the game.

The Poets of the Fall track [[War]] can be heard on a radio in-game and later plays at the end of the episode. The music video for War, directed by [[Aleksi Koskinen|Aleksi]] & [[Akseli Tuomivaara|Akseli]] blends the thematics of PotF with that of Alan Wake, depicting all of the band members except for [[Marko Saaresto|Marko]] as members of the Taken (enemy NPCs) and showing some of the game's key objects (later called "[[Objects of Power]]" in [[Control]]) including [[Clicker|the "clicker"]] light switch and manuscript pages. The band also appear in-fiction on a tv chat show.

Alan Wake marked the band's first time providing the music (but not likeness) of [[Old Gods of Asgard]]. The track [[The Poet and the Muse]] is used as a diagetic clue in the game's plot, informing that "You will need the witch's cabin key." This kind of musical clue concept would be used again later in the [[Alan Wake's American Nightmare]] track [[Balance Slays the Demon]]. Another track, [[Children of the Elder God]] plays during a climactic set-piece where Alan fights a large number of enemies on a stage at the Anderson brother's place, with the music blasting out of speakers in the game world - a noted highlight of the game.

Remedy has continued to work with Poets of the Fall on later games Alan Wake's American Nightmare, Control and the upcoming [[Alan Wake II]], sometimes under the pseudonym Old Gods of Asgard. The OGoA have been seen as the chat show band on In Bewteen with Mr Door in the latest trailer for Alan Wake II, portrayed in their prime for the first time by PotF members [[Marko Saaresto]], [[Olli Tukiainen]] and [[Markus Kaarlonen]]. Their alignment with the in-lore members is a little confusing and Marko is even wearing the eye-patch on the "wrong" eye to be Odin Anderson.
