It started like any other year, but turned into an emotional rollercoaster, for various reasons, with Poets of the Fall’s debut album, [[Signs of Life (album)|Signs of Life]], serving as the soundtrack. <br /> <br /> I remember wandering the streets in pouring rain and falling leaves, a portable music player armed with [[Late Goodbye]] and other classics in my pocket, feeling like a brokenhearted Bogart from film noir. <br /> <br /> Ever since those days the music by Poets of the Fall has been an endless source of inspiration for me as a filmmaker, as a storyteller and as human.<br /> <br /> Quite unexpectedly I got to revisit the album last fall as we began pre-production on the music video for [[Stay]], the sixth track on Signs of Life. That’s when I knew these guys see the world in the same way as I do, and I could only hope to be able to collaborate with them at some point. I also love [[Remedy Entertainment|Remedy]]’s games so there’s that too!<br/>...<br/>Sometimes the band has clear ideas about what they want to do with the project. Then I’ll just add my thoughts into the mix, and we got this nice amalgamation of ideas. Sometimes they give me more of a free reign like in [[Moonlight Kissed]] and [[Dancing on Broken Glass]]. Still, it’s always very much a collaborative effort!<br/>...<br/>Moonlight Kissed was my first Poets video so it’ll always have a special place in my heart. I think Dancing on Broken Glass says something fundamental about human spirit and life in general so there’s that. I really love all those experiences for different reasons. If I think about the videos where I wasn’t involved, I’d have to pick Late Goodbye or [[Carnival of Rust (song)|Carnival of Rust]]. Late Goodbye has that driving through the night thing going on which I just adore as you probably know by this point.
