Martti Saarinen is a Finnish melodic rock singer from Tuusula who won the fifth season of the Idols singing competition in 2011. Saarinen defeated Ali Elkharam in the final after receiving 56 percent of the votes.[1] Before competing in Idol, Saarinen had performed with a cover band called Boiled Monkeys since 2005. He also sang in a band called Killer Kachina.[citation needed] The winning song in Idols was Se Alkaa Taas ("It starts again"), composed by Patric Sarin and written by Paula Vesala.[citation needed]
The first album was released in September 2011. The first single from the album was the song Kaipaus Nousee Siivilleen ("Longing takes to its wings"), written by Poets of the Fall.[2] His self-titled album debuted at number ten on the Official Finnish Charts.[3]

Interviews
Martti has a fine, expressive voice and a strong grip on music and singing. As a raw and very direct and genuine man, he is also brilliantly suited to interpreting these most painful and touching aspects of love, which 'longing takes to its wings'. Such songs are not suitable for everyone - Marko Saaresto (translated from Finnish)[4]
