Dark Ocean Summoning is a track by Poets of the Fall's alter-ego band Old Gods of Asgard that features in the Remedy Entertainment game Alan Wake II. It was included as the second track on OGoA's 2023 debut album Rebirth: Greatest Hits.
Following a failed start, the track plays during the horde fight in chapter Return 7: Summoning, resembling 80s metal. Like other OGoA tracks, the lyrics are diegetic, in this case acting as a musical ritual to try to bring Alan out of The Dark Place. It is used in a similar way to Children of the Elder God in the original Alan Wake.
Lyrics
I name the stars over your cauldron
And all that lies beneath your waves
Throwing my voice into your shadow
The underworld, the darkest place
The onyx kiss of inky waters
The jet black undertow of fright
From the cold depths now I will conjure
The spiral madness of his mind
Once more the ocean's a Lake
So alike a land awake
Come save your soul
Awake new and whole
By name I will summon him
From the silence of screams
From the city of dreams
It's a Dark Ocean Summoning
The horror story falsely claiming
Naming you servant of the night
Now rise up by the name I'm calling
Your soul returning to the light
Once more the ocean's a Lake
So alike a land awake
Come save your soul
Awake new and whole
By name I will summon him
From the silence of screams
From the city of dreams
It's a Dark Ocean Summoning
Trivia
- The line "So alike a land awake" is meant to resemble the name Alan Wake, this is a running pun with Old Gods of Asgard lyrics.
