The Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake is an upcoming combined remake of Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne into a single video game. It is being developed and published as with the originals by Remedy Entertainment and Rockstar Games respectively. As with the original titles, the game is a 3rd person shooter, featuring the signature neo-noir atmosphere, storytelling and “bullet-time” gunplay.
The game is being developed for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S using Remedy's proprietary Northlight game engine. The game’s development budget will be financed by Rockstar Games, the size of which will be in line with a typical Remedy AAA-game production.
Poets of the Fall involvement
It is currently unknown to what extent Poets of the Fall (or potentially even Old Gods of Asgard) will be included in the game. While the original games have been confirmed to not take place within the Remedy Connected Universe in which OGoA exist, that statement was likely made for legal reasons at the time rather than as a creative decision - given the amount of nods and references to Max Payne made in Alan Wake and Control. The original version of Max Payne 2 featured the Poets of the Fall track Late Goodbye as well as musical references to the track throughout the game. Marko Saaresto had cameo parts in both games - as the comic strip version of Vladimir Lem and various characters on the in-game television shows (as live-action stills). Olli Tukiainen had a cameo in the original game as the face model for Vinnie Gognitti. Although Markus Kaarlonen was involved in the games' audio production he didn't have any cameos.
