Diamonds for Tears was initially released by Poets of the Fall on The Voice's Livenä Vieraissa album in early 2008 alongside the band's cover of You Know My Name.
A reworked version of Diamonds for Tears was then included as the eighth track on Poets of the Fall's 2008 third album Revolution Roulette. This altered version of the track was also released as a single and has since become the de-facto version internationally. The single's artwork was created by Marko Saaresto and Pertti Kainulainen.[citation needed]
A music video of Diamonds for Tears was released on 15th July 2008, directed by Niina Miettinen.
The track had been absent from setlists between 2012 and 2022, but brought back to live shows as of 2023.
