Phoenix Effect is an alternative rock/post-grunge band from Espoo, Finland. Formed in 2008 by guitarist and vocalist Janne Kärkkäinen, formerly of Sunrise Avenue - the band has released two studio albums under the Insomniac label. Their first album, Cyanide Skies, was released on 18 February 2009 in Finland and entered the Finnish album charts at No. 22. Phoenix Effect is known as Poets of the Fall's "sister group" and the members of PotF have had heavy involvement with the band, particularly on Cyanide Skies.[1] Marko Saaresto provided lyrics for both albums.

Founding members Janne Kärkkäinen (vocals, guitar) and Pyry Nikkilä (guitar) were joined by Lauri Hämäläinen (bass) and Anton Laurila (drums) for the second album, replacing Jani Snellman (bass) and Jari Salminen (drums). Hämäläinen later co-produced PotF's album Ghostlight. Phoenix effect is co-produced by Markus Kaarlonen, who also provides additional instruments. Poets of the Fall make a cameo appearance in the video for King See No Evil, directed by Oskari Sipola who also directed Dreaming Wide Awake. King See No Evil features backing vocals by Marko Saaresto and he also provides the bridge vocals for Lucky Star and the album art for Cyanide Skies. My Heart is a Beating Drum ends with a bombastic guest guitar solo by Olli Tukiainen. Photography is by Tiia Öhman.
