Lift was the second CD single released by Poets of the Fall on 9th September 2004. It charted #8 on the Finnish single charts and reached #7 in YleX's 2004 voting for "Best Finnish song." The CD single of Lift is the only release of the track The Beautiful Ones, the band's only true remaining b-side, with others having been re-released on later albums. The single's artwork was created by Marko Saaresto and Pertti Kainulainen.[1]
Lift was included as the first track on Signs of Life, the band's 2005 debut album. The album contains a password that used to grant access to a secret page on the band's website that hosted a remix of the song, entitled "Dramadance Remix". The remix was made by Captain. Due to changes to the website since then, it is no longer available.
A music video was also released for the track, directed by Tuomas "Stobe" Harju.
In 2020, the track was performed live and unplugged by Marko and Captain as the August entry of the Alexander Theatre Sessions.

Lyrics
Times when I just can't
Bring myself to say it loud
'Fraid that what I'll say comes out somehow awry
That is when it seems
We move in circles day to day
Twist the drama of the play to get us by
And it feels like fear
Like I'll disappear
Gets so hard to steer
Yet I go on
Do we need debate
When it seems too late
Like I bleed but wait
Like nothing's wrong
You lift my spirit, take me higher, make me fly
Touch the moon up in the sky, when you are mine
You lift me higher, take my spirit, make it fly
Where all new wonders will appear
Like the other day
I thought you won't be coming back
I came to realize my lackluster dreams
And among the schemes
And all the tricks we try to play
Only dreams will hold their sway and defy
When it feels like fear...
You lift my spirit, take me higher, make me fly...
You lift my spirit, take me higher, make me fly...

Tuomas "Stobe" Harju, MV Director
The music video for the song lift was shot in May 2005 in a single day followed by 186 shots of computer graphics done by visual effect studio and production company Nitro.[2]
The video is a little showroom for Nitro’s animation abilities. I’m very proud of this video since we only had a total of ten people making the video. It was worth a glass of good wine after the video was finished.[3]
Trivia
- The single's copyright statement ends with "Just what you really wanted to know, right?"
- In the video, "Mark" is designated as an "Illusionist and Dreamer"
